Benchmark Build is a Mangawhai family business established in 2017, specialising in new homes, house and land packages and spec homes. Led by owner and Licensed Building Practitioner Duncan Northcott, the business is built around quality workmanship, careful planning, clear communication and staying closely involved from the early stages through to handover.

How Benchmark Build works

Benchmark Build keeps the building process personal and closely managed. Duncan coordinates each project alongside a regular group of trusted, qualified tradespeople who are brought in for the different stages of the build.

That means there is a clear point of contact throughout the project, with the people on site coordinated closely and progress kept moving.

Closely involved

Duncan stays closely involved in each build, keeping across the day-to-day details rather than handing the project over once construction begins.

Clear communication

Clients are kept updated as the build progresses, with milestone photos and any variations or unexpected costs discussed before additional work goes ahead.

Careful coordination

Trades, timing and upcoming stages are planned and coordinated closely to keep the build moving and everyone clear on what happens next.

Benchmark Build works with a regular group of trusted, qualified tradespeople who understand the standard expected across each stage of the build.

Building and making

Duncan has always enjoyed the practical side of building, taking an idea or set of plans and turning it into something finished and useful. That same interest also led to Benchmark Build’s Macrocarpa furniture range, which is made in Mangawhai alongside the home-building work.

New homes remain the main focus of Benchmark Build, but both sides of the business reflect the same attention to solid construction, useful design and the details that make the finished result feel right.

Benchmark Build has been based in Mangawhai since 2017, with most home building focused around Mangawhai and the surrounding areas. Over that time, the business has grown through new homes, spec homes and house and land packages, while keeping the same hands-on way of working.
