Meet the maker

Hey, I’m Duncan, the man behind Benchmark Build.

I started designing tables in 2018 for friends and family.

They were a hit.

From that, a small business was born.

Fast forward to now, if I’m not off-roading with my golden retrievers, or building houses in the Mangawhai area, you can find me in the workshop, designing furniture to send all across New Zealand.

Each piece is slowly handcrafted with care. My goal is to maintain the integrity of the Macrocarpa while adding the rustic touches of my craft. The circular etching from the saw exposes the natural grain, knots and different color variations Macrocarpa is so well known for. A double-coat oiling process enriches the wood, giving it life and helping to protect it against the harsh weather conditions. To finish, I add fixings and any requested extras, making each, one of a kind.
